Copyediting: Light or Comprehensive
I offer two levels of copyediting to better suit my clients’ needs. Depending on the quality and state of the text, the revision may be light or comprehensive. Your needs determine the depth, which in turn determines pacing and cost.
Light copyediting: 2 cents per word.
This moves at a faster pace and focuses primarily on cleaning up the manuscript and targeting typical errors. Punctuation is used correctly, sentences are grammatically sound, words are spelled correctly, capitalization is proper, and incorrectly used words are flagged. It leaves your work clear and error-free but is not a “deep” revision. The main purpose is readability.
Example pricing:
A 1,000 word document would cost 20€ or $20.
An 80,000-word manuscript would cost 1,600€ or $1,600.
Comprehensive edit: 3 cents per word.
Comprehensive editing is deeper, slower, and more interpretive. It is essentially a line-by-line review for all of the above (grammar, punctuation, capitalization, and spelling) but also includes tense, idiomaticity, syntax, linguistic clarity, and word usage. It may also include edits or suggestions for continuity, flow, and basic structure, depending on the length and type of document.
Example pricing:
A 1,000 word document would cost 30€ or $30.
An 80,000-word document would cost 2,400€ or $2,400.
Certain projects may require an hourly rate (such as revisions to PDFs, proofs, and other non-editable documents, for example). I charge 60€ / $60 dollars per hour for copyediting. Contact me to discuss your needs.
